Gambling Harms language paper released

Language shapes how we understand and respond to gambling harms.

We’ve released a new Gambling Harms paper which outlines best practice guidelines for using non-stigmatising language. This has been developed to support thoughtful and sensitive communication for professionals, and to honour how people describe their own lived experiences.

We know that people with lived experience may prefer different terminology which should always be prioritised, to correctly represent lived experiences of gambling. However, our guide also seeks to outline stigmatising terms, examples of use, and preferred terminology in a way that’s easy to understand. By doing this, we can reduce shame for individuals whilst highlighting the impact that the gambling industry can have.
